Becoming a foster parent in North Carolina means providing a safe, temporary home to a child who cannot remain with their own family. Among the requirements before a child is placed: holding current first-aid and CPR certification.

متطلب الإسعافات الأولية

Under North Carolina rule 10A NCAC 70E.1117, foster parents must complete certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and universal precautions before a foster child is placed with the family, with CPR appropriate for the ages of the children in care. The Division does not accept web-based training for this certification.

This is recognized by the NC Division of Social Services and the supervising agency, which must also ensure foster parents are trained in medication administration before a child is placed. The certificate must be kept current and is one requirement in addition to the 30 hours of TIPS-MAPP training, the home study and the assessment of parenting suitability.

Because supervising agencies also require training in medication administration, foster parents are prepared to manage children's prescribed medications, including emergency medications such as an epinephrine auto-injector for severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
